Discover the 48th edition of Temps des Hélices !!!

La Ferté-Alais aerodrome (ICAO code: LFFQ) is an approved restricted-use aerodrome, located in the municipalities of Cerny and Itteville, 2 km north-northwest of La Ferté-Alais in Essonne (Île-de-France region, France).
It is used for the practice of leisure and tourism activities (light aviation and helicopter).
The aerodrome is home to many historic planes, including one of the very prestigious C-47, B-17 and Junkers Ju 52. Five Morane-Saulnier planes classified as historical monuments are also based there.
Every year, on Pentecost Saturday and Sunday, the friendly Jean-Baptiste Salis organizes an air show called « The Time of the Propellers », which features many old planes from all over Europe. This meeting also receives the regular participation of the Patrouille de France. Bernard Chabbert, commentator of the event, and Gilbert Courtois, sound designer or sound designer, form a duo linked to this event.
Every year in June, since 1993, the aerodrome has hosted the event “La Locomotion en Fête” for a weekend, which brings together more than 1,500 more or less old vehicles of the twentieth century, of all categories: cars, trucks. , motorcycles, agricultural machinery, military machinery, tanks, tractors, fire and police vehicles, etc. This major exhibition is accompanied by numerous stands and events.

This year the 48th edition of the Temps des Hélices will take place on August 28 and 29, 2021 at the Cerny / La Ferté-Alais aerodrome in Essonne, 50 km south of Paris, and will be one of the first airshows of great importance for the start of the school year.

The event has been rescheduled to give it the best chance of success in compliance with health measures and logistical constraints. However, we draw your attention to the fact that a vaccination passport OR a negative PCR test will be mandatory. Tickets will only be sold in advance through various channels, the details of which we will communicate to you in a future newsletter. Tickets purchased in 2020 remain valid for the 2021 edition.

Lucky post first of May

The first commercial flight of the Caravelle

On this Friday, 1rst May 1959, the Caravelle named « Alsace » of Air France which makes the aeronautical topicality, with the registration:

F-BHRA carrying out in this day its very first voyage: an inaugural flight from France to Turkey.

Indeed, this 1rst of May 1959, the Caravelle « Alsace », took off from Paris, Orly airport, to join the city of Istanbul. A flight  with successive stopovers in Milan, Rome but also in Athens and, flown by the pilots Lionel Casse, Pierre Dudal and Pierre Duguet.

As this was the aircraft’s very first flight, before it entered commercial service five days later, a number of personalities took part in the trip, including the President and Director of Air France, Max Hymans and Louis Lesieux .

The Caravelle « Alsace » was back in the media, which had been talking a lot about the Caravelle « Lorraine » at the beginning of 1959 with its inauguration in March, followed by a demonstration flight (gliding) in April.
